Homecoming 2026

Goessel Guys Basketball – @ Goessel v. Sedgwick                             Friday January 31, 2026

Goessel went up 3-0 for its largest lead of the night.   A terrific long-range trey from Sophomore Kreed Smith gave the assembled blue faithful hope for a night similar to the nail-biting excitement of last week’s OT 2A Udall (W 45-30) matchup.    Tonight’s contest against 2A Sedgwick would not be the same, however; Coach Guhr called time at 4:21 down 3-11.   Levi Schrag went hard to the hoop, was fouled and could not convert at the charity stripe.  Trey Gaddis did a mind bending, zero gravity, Olympic gymnast double back flip loop twist and shout over the shoulder move against three longer Cardinals to get it to 5-14.    The indescribable finish immediately took front and center on ESPN’s SportsCenter feed.   The first quarter ended 5-27.   Goessel could not get on the board again until 2:15 in the 2nd when Gaddis hit the front end of two FT’s, then Noah Johnson put up another FT with time running out in the half to go to 7-43 at the end of two.

Homecoming festivities featured the crowning of the king and queen between games.     At half time, the cheer team presented a very classy and well-coordinated program.

In running clock in the 2nd half, the Bluebirds produced several quality finishes.   At 3:45 Brayton Base caught a long pass and put it in for two, then Gaddis finished a nifty up-tempo run with an excellent soft left-handed lay in.   With the 2nd team Cardinals in, Gaddis pushed hard to the bucket and was fouled on a great floater +1 to go to 14-46.  With all subs in, Goessel was able to win the 4th quarter 7-4, including finishes from Kreed Smith, Aiden Duerksen (12 foot jumper),  AJ Hagewood and a free throw from Kalan Stephens.    This one ended at 21-50.

Trey Gaddis led the Bluebirds with 8 and Kreed Smith tallied 5.    Brayton Base, AJ Hagewood, and Aiden Duerksen each scored 2.   Kalan Stephens and Noah Johnson each put up 1 on the night.  Also in for Goessel were:   Xavier Garcia, Anthony Boden, Levi Schrag, Ezekiel Guhr, and Tanner Unruh.
