Bluebirds Win on Jan. 6
Goessel Girls Basketball – @ Goessel v. Peabody Burns Warriors Tuesday January 6, 2026
Against a young Peabody-Burns squad on January 6, 2026, Goessel had a chance to bring its entire girls’ bench
into a varsity environment. No post-Christmas blues were evident as the Bluebirds ignited for 6 treys and shot
at a 35% clip from outside the arc. In a running clock shortened stat sheet, Goessel was still able to put up 52
points while holding the starting Warrior squad to 20 on the night and 2 through the first part of the first
quarter.
Steals up front from Duerksen lit it up and it was 17-0 before you could say “Olivvviaaaaa.” At 3:13, Dunnahoo
wrestled in a 10 footer to go to 17-2. Freshmen Bella O’Neill and Mackenzie Voth put on an Epiphany
exhibition this evening, cascading in nearly perfect threes from so many locations announcer Pauls put the
scoring announcement on loop. Abigail Johnson had several great hustle moves underneath. Goessel was
able to effectively quash the Warrior efforts to move to the bucket against the Blue Woman to Woman. With
the 2nd team subs in, the score moved to 24-9 after one. Relentless scoring pushes from Johnson and O’Neill
took it to 32-11 before Claire Claassen found the bucket on a nice turn in the paint to close the 10-2 second
quarter at 34-11. At 5:23 fans, parents, and coaches all paused in disbelief as O’Neill went down hard at mid-
court and was immobile for a few minutes. The lead referee noted to fans at mid-court when she was able to
pop up and walk off “I didn’t expect her to pop up like a gymnastics performer.” Duerksen and Voth
continued to rain on the Warrior parade and it was 44-14 after three and the game went into running clock.
With all subs in, Freshman Sofia Flores showed strong inside, going to the line three times at 4/5. Claassen was
able to sock another inside bucket in, and the 8-6 fourth ended this one at 52-20.
Mackenzie Voth led the way with 14 on the night and went 4 for 7 from three point range and 1/1 from inside
the stripe. Her breakfast consisted of the finest waffles ever; we recommend that diet! Bella O’Neill scored
13, all in the first half, and was 2/3 from three point range and ¾ inside with an overall FG% of 71%. Freshmen
led the scoring for the Bluebirds, with Sofia Flores putting up 8 on excellent free throw shooting (4/5) and two
buckets. Delaney Duerksen hit three FG’s for 6 and was credited with excellent defensive work. Isabelle
Alderfer led the Bluebird rebounding effort with 7 tonight, exactly ¼ of all the Goessel boards. Alderfer also
was credited with 3 Floor Points. Abi Johnson pushed hard inside, collected numerous fouls and finished with 5
points and 5 boards. Claire Claassen worked hard inside, scored 4 and pulled 5 boards. Hailey Rosfeld was
perfect from FG range 1/1 and finished with 2. Goessel only had 14 turnovers to the opponent’s 32. Others
on the floor tonight for the Bluebirds included: Nivea Funk, Jayley Schmidt, Jenna Flaming (2 steals), and Estela
Flores.
