WINTER OLYMPICS ARRIVE AT GOESSEL ELEMENTARY

Friday afternoon, Feb. 7, the students at Goessel Elementary celebrated the arrival of the Winter Olympics.  The 'Nation of Students' represented by the fifith grade class eagerly took on the 'Nation of Teachers and Staff'.  There were three events they participated in:  1)  Curling, 2)  Bobsled, and 3) Hockey. Students first viewed a short youtube video to introduce them to Curling. In curling three team members took turns rolling the 'rock' down the 'sheet' toward the 'house' while trying to score points by landing the 'rock' on the 'button'.  In the bobsled run, two students competed with two staff members, pushing a wheeled bobsled around an obstacle course and back again.  Finally, in the hockey game, the rest of the fifth grade class took on 10 staff members in a high stakes hockey game. We don't believe anyone lost any teeth!  All contestants received a gold medal.   Actually a solid chocolate coin wrapped in gold foil, because we all know chocolate is more valuable than gold anyway!  All the grades enjoyed a bag of popcorn while watching the events.  Good sportsmanship was demonstrated by all students by cheering on both the 5th graders and the staff.
