Blast-Off!

Blast-Off!

The physics class at Goessel High School took advantage of a beautiful fall day on Wednesday, November  15th, to launch their rockets!  They had spent a week in-class constructing their rockets, and were eager to see them fly.

The team of Abby Hannon and Eden Hiebert named their pink rocket ‘Felicia’.  After a false start, their successful launch sent their girl  in a spiraling flight up to a height of 10 meters.

The team of Juan Aguilera, Nathaniel Schmucker and Braden Roby decorated their rocket as a tribute to Spain.  With a staggering TWELVE engines, they struggled to wire their engines into a single circuit for ignition, but eventually sent the rocket tumbling on its way.  Unfortunately, the heavy weight of their huge rocket prevented its reaching much height off the ground.

The students will wrap up their project by calculating the boost provided by their rocket engines, and calculating the height of an ideal flight.  They’ll compare their calculated values to the actual heights achieved in their launches this week.

The physics class extends a special thanks to Ben Schmidt for his aid in using the gator battery as the power source for sparking their rockets ignition!
