Minions Help to Launch Character Education Program

As we enter the 2015-16 school year, Mrs. Duerksen and I are using a Minion theme to introduce our Character Education progam this year.  Mrs. Duerksen and I put on a short skit dressed as minions.  Afterwards we discussed six minion leadership principles that the class saw in the skit: 1) They never turn their back on a team member, 2) They are not afraid to take a chance, 3) They know how to play, 4) They always see the positive side of things, 5) They take responsibility, and 6) They never give up!   Mrs. Duerksen also read a story on friendship to them and discussed the minion ways to be a friend to others.  Mr. Fast also introduced a giant word to them, Magnanimous and helped them understand that it simply means being kind and generous to others.  Students who display strong skills, or improvement in this area receive a MAG award from the Principal.  Finally, Mrs, Duerksen hands out a Minion bandaid to each student as a gentle way to remind students to be kind and assist someone who may be hurting.
