ONE SWEET GARDEN

September 18, 2014

We are excited about all the garden produce coming out of our garden this fall.  Last year our big crop was cantaloupe, this year our big crop is sweet potatoes!  Mrs. Pam Abrahams along with Megan Duerksen and several other parent volunteers have been working hard to keep our garden in good shape this summer.  The efforts are showing!  We have harvested nearly 150 pounds of sweet potatoes along with tomatoes, cucumbers, cantaloupe, watermelons, green peppers, squash and more.  Our H.S. FACS teacher, Mrs. Ratzloff has offered to have her nutrition class students come over to the grade school to give TATER TALKS.  TATER TALKS  are brief talks about the benefits of sweet potatoes and they might even have some unique recipes to share.  We sincerely appreciate our cooks, Mrs. Sandra Duerksen and Mrs. Janice Voth who so willingly incorporate this produce into the cafeteria!  A big shout out goes to them!  Later this fall we could use some parent help as we literally put the 'garden to bed' for the winter.  Let us know if you have interest in volunteering with hands-on experiential learning project with our kids.
