Goessel Music leads state

The Goessel Music department ended the year with a tremendous achievement.  At the state solo and small ensemble festival held on April 28th in Wichita, Goessel had the most entries and the most 1 ratings than any other 1a school in the state of Kansas!

Below are details from the high school regional & state contests, as well as results from the junior high contest held earlier March.

Performing at the KSHSAA Regional Solos and Small Ensembles Festival held at Tabor College on March 31 were Erin Brubaker, vocal; Reece Hiebert, vocal; Isabelle Houben, vocal; Samantha Jarvis, vocal; Makayla King, saxophone; Alex Schmidt, vocal; Peter Voth, vocal; Carolin Wetzel, trumpet; the Brass Ensemble and the Trumpet Trio.

In addition, 21 solo performances and 6 ensembles advanced from Regional Festival with I ratings and performed again at State Festival on April 28 at Stucky Middle School in Wichita. The soloists and ensembles who were awarded "II" ratings at State Festival were Isabelle Houben, double bass; Gracie Sullivan, flute; Gentry Thiesen, vocal; Stephan Goertzen, vocal; Drake Sterk, vocal; D'Ambra Kruger, vocal; Jeffrey Hall, vocal; Georgia Thiesen, flute; Elbiata Mens Ensemble; and Flute Quartet.

The soloists and ensembles who were awarded "I" ratings at State Festival were Josh Booth, vocal; Erin Brubaker, clarinet; Aimee Flaming, vocal; Grant Flaming, trumpet; Alex Hiebert, vocal; Reece Hiebert, bass clarinet; Alex Schmidt, tuba; Mark Schmidt, flute; Georgia Thiesen, vocal; Braden Unruh, vocal and trumpet; Ben Wiens, clarinet and alto saxophone; Elbiata Singers; Elbiata Womens Ensemble; Saxophone Quartet; and Clarinet Quintet.

These students also performed with the High School Band and Choir at the KSHSAA State Music Festival for large ensembles at Marion High School on April 18. The High School Choir was awarded a "II" rating. The Band, Mens Chorus, and Womens Chorus were awarded "I" ratings. The vocal instructor is Renae Schmidt Peters and the instrumental instructor is Robert Tierney. Accompanists are Marcia Brubaker and Karen Unruh.

On March 6, Goessel Junior High students participated in the Wheat State League Music Festival held in White City. All students in grades 6, 7, and 8 sang in the choir and earned a "I+" rating for their performance and accolades from the adjudicators for their vocal tone and high quality performances. The Boys' Ensemble also earned a "I+". The Girls Ensemble and the select Mixed Ensemble earned "I++" ratings. The Goessel JH Band earned a "I' rating for their performance. All band students also performed in one of the following ensembles: Saxophone Ensemble, Clarinet Quintet, Flute Quintet, Trumpet Quartet, Low Brass Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Brass Quintet, Woodwing Quintet, and Clarinet Ensemble. Students who performed vocal solos were Joshua Schmidt, Chase Flaming, Jennifer Meysing, Anna Wiens, Kaytlin Shipp, Lanna Wagner, Kylee Unruh, Aleena Cook, Alicen Meysing, Riley Jarvis, Olivia Duerksen, Autumn Strecker, Rebekah Herrel, Alyssa Booton, Luke Uhruh, Page Hiebert. Students who performed instrumental solos were Page Hiebert, Luke Unruh, Olivia Duerksen, Shelbi Stultz, Autumn Strecker, Alyssa Booton, Ashley Hiebert, Joshua Schmidt, Anna Wiens, Jennifer Meysing, Zach Wiens, Kenny Hammond, Aleena Cook, Lanna Wagner, Kylee Unruh, Tiana Base, Kaytlin Shipp, and Alicen Meysing.
