Three Students Advance To State Piano Festival

February 05, 2012

Congratulations to Mark Schmidt, Ben Wiens, and Carolin Wetzel for earning "I" ratings at the Regional Piano Festival on Saturday! All three will perform at State Festival held at Tabor College on Feb. 18.

Mark played “Gigue in B-flat Major from Partita No. 1” by Johann Sebastian Bach.  He has taken piano lessons for a little more than 6 years.  He started lessons as a 4th grader.

Ben played “Norwegian Concerto” by Edvard Grieg.  He has taken piano lessons for 10 years, since kindergarten.

Carolin played the first movement (7 pages) of “Italian Concerto” by Johann Sebastian Bach. Carolin is in her first year of American piano lessons, but also took lessons in Germany.

All students played totally by memory.  These students have worked incredibly hard on many tiny details that "bring the music to life."  They were all well-prepared and confident, and they all definitely deserved a I rating.  Mark, Ben, and Carolin are students of Cynthia Goerzen.

Congratulations to these musicians and good luck at State Piano Festival.
