Scholars' Bowl Season: A Success!
February 21, 2010
The Goessel High School Scholars' Bowl team ended their season a few weeks ago, at the Ell-Saline regional meet. Due to weather concerns, the meet, which had been scheduled for the previous Thursday, was rescheduled. This led to an earlier start time, much to the dismay of the team members, who were forced to eat lunch a whole hour early and leave the school at 11:30.
At Ell-Saline, the team of juniors Hannah Franzen, Laird Goertzen, Lukas Kemkes, Adam Meysing, Michelle Unruh, and senior Lindsey Wedel competed well in pool play, going 6-1. This propelled them into the championship rounds of play. The team faced very tough teams in the championship rounds, including Sacred Heart, who would eventually win the 2A State Championship. Though the team went 1-4 in the championship rounds, it was an enjoyable time overall, and hopefully the experience gained by the juniors will be helpful towards next year's season.
The 2A State Scholars' Bowl Championship was held at our very own Goessel High School, and a lot of preparation and effort went into this. Help from all members of the scholars' bowl team was necessary to make sure the day went smoothly, whether this was score keeping, timing, or monitoring the doors to make sure no one went in during the rounds. Overall, the day went well, and by 3:30, everything was wrapped up. Manager of the tournament Justin Coup said, "It really was a success, and we received a lot of compliments about it from other schools and spectators." The championship went to Sacred Heart, with the runner-up trophy going to Maranatha Academy. Immaculata High School took 3rd place, followed by Inman, who came in at 4th. Congratulations to everyone involved with this meet for making it such an effortlessly enjoyable event!
