Animator Visits HS Art Classes
February 02, 2010
Bud Luckey, retired illustrator from Pixar Studios, came speak to the High School Art class on Feb. 2. He is the friend of Tyler Schulz's grandparents, Larry and Pat Barnett who live in Goessel. They grew up together in Montana. Bud has seen animation from early days of hand-drawn cartoons to the digital revolution. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his short animation, "Bounding." He has had a hand in A Bug's Life, Monsters, Inc, and drew Woody for "Toy Story." He also worked on Finding Nemo, Cars, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Wall-E, many commercials, and Sesame Street. He was a quiet and very modest presenter, but a world-class professional in the classroom who knows the ins and outs of the business. He has been to the Oscars a few times and, as a member of the Academy, gets to vote on the Oscars. In fact, he is on the nomination board for the Animation Short film category. He answered student questions on a variety of topics. The Hillsboro Free Press and Star Journal newspapers were there to cover his visit.
