For the week of March 8, 2010

Lousy Rotten Stinkin’ Grapes
By Margie Palatini

Reading Level: 2nd – 4th grade

The grapes in the tree look really good to Fox, but they are just too high.  However, Fox is clever, and all he needs is a little help.  Soon, Fox has tricked Bear, Beaver, Porcupine, Possum, and Skunk into helping him reach the grapes, but he still can’t quite get them.  All of the other animals have better ideas than Fox, but Fox refuses to listen to the others, and by the end of the book, Fox is the only one without grapes.
This book is a twist on the Aesop’s fable “The Fox and the Grapes”.  Readers will enjoy the illustrations as well as the dialogue between the animals.  Maybe there are times when it’s good to listen to others!
