These are the top three new chapter books at Goessel Elementary School for 2007-2008 according to the librarian!
The Invention of Hugo Cabret
By Brian Selznick
Hugo is an orphan whose survival depends on his own ingenuity and secrecy. However, Hugo soon finds himself involved with a cast of characters as he tries to unravel a mystery about his dead father. Although this book is over 500 pages, a majority of the story is told through amazingly detailed pictures. In fact, this book won the Caldecott Award and is sure to win several other awards.
Clementine

Clementine is having a horrible week! On Monday, she was sent to the principal's office for cutting off a classmate's hair, and that's just the beginning! Clementine has become the new "it" character, and there are already two more Clementine books available.
How To Steal a Dog

Georgina and her family have been living in their car, and the secret is bound to get out at school. Georgina comes up with a plan to get some money by stealing a dog, waiting for a reward poster to be put up, and then returning the dog for the reward! This book is filled with humor and sadness as Georgina tries her best to help her family out of a tough situation.
