Goessel High School Golf Team

Expectations

As a representative of Goessel High School and the Goessel Golf program, I will exhibit conduct in a manner that portrays a positive image of this team, the school, and myself.  Therefore, I agree to the expectations outlined in this agreement and realize that discipline or possible dismissal from the team will result if these rules are not followed.

1.  Equipment issued to you (Golf bag) is your responsibility.  If damaged, lost, or stolen you will be required to pay for a replacement.

2.   Every member of the team is required to provide his/her own golf clubs, bag, and practice balls.  On days of meets, a limited number of balls will be provided to those participating.

3.   Practice will take place at Newton & Goessel Public Golf Courses.  Due to this arrangement, the following will take place:

A.    Every athlete will ride the bus to practice unless cleared by Mr. Bontrager.

B.     The bus will depart promptly immediately after dismissal of school (3:30).

C.     Every member of the team should consider it a privilege to play on the golf course along with the public.  Also, we must interact with the public in a respectful way so that we maintain a good standing with the course.

1.    No profanity or throwing clubs.

2.      Wear appropriate attire.  No cutoff jeans, overalls, tank tops, or any clothing that contains inappropriate pictures or verbiage.  It is the discretion of the coach to determine if clothing is inappropriate.  If in question, don't wear it.

3.      Rules of the golf course apply including proper etiquette.  Allow quicker groups ahead,

play at a fast pace, no hitting into other groups, repair ball marks and divots.  No

intentional damage shall be done to the golf course.

4.      A limited number of range balls will be available during practice.  You should use no more than 1 bucket each day unless receiving permission from me.  We should not take advantage of the generosity of the golf course.  Also, prolonged hitting on the range tends to decrease one’s focus, resulting in bad swing habits.

5.      During days when golf meets are scheduled, those not participating will go with the assistant coaches to the course.

4.      Sometimes the weather will be questionable as to whether we go to the course for practice.   As a general rule, plan on practicing at the course if the temperature is above 40°.  We will have practice of some kind every day.  This might involve hitting whiffle balls in the gym, putting on carpet, watching golf videos.  You should always have workout clothes available for days when we stay at the school.

5.      Sometimes the weather may change when we are on the course.  You will always leave the course immediately if lightning is seen or a violent-looking storm is nearby.

6.      If you have the opportunity to play at a meet, show respect for coaches, teammates, and other

Competitors.  Always report truthful and accurate scores during practice or competition.  Be

      an example to others.

7.      If you are disqualified at a meet for inappropriate behavior, the following consequences will occur:

1st time- Sit out the next meet

2.   2nd time- Dismissed from team

8.      Five to Nine-hole scores will occasionally be taken to help determine who participates at the next competition.  I like to have at least 2 scores taken before each invite.  For all meets, the coach reserves the right to make final decisions as to the makeup of the team.

9.      School is very important!  If a teacher informs me that you have a low grade in his/her class or if you are ineligible, then you will be required to spend time after school with that teacher and not come to practice.  You can join us when you get your work done.

10.  Occasionally you may not agree with a decision pertaining to the team.  However, I do expect you to respect the decision and to refrain from undermining an individual, the team, or the coach.  If you do have a concern, it is always best to express it to me in a private and timely manner.

11.  Absences

a.       Excused

1.      Sick and not in school.  If you are in school, then you are well enough for practice.

2.      Make-up work from teachers should be scheduled before school or during correctives whenever possible.  Academics come first, but be responsible to your team.

B.  Unexcused

1.     First or Second Offense

-- Sit out next golf meet (scheduled meet or duel/triangular).

2.     Third Offense

        --Dismissal from team

12.  Not every situation can be anticipated.  Therefore, coaches are not limited to these rules and will use their judgment to handle individual situations as they occur.
